Composting 101

July 29, 2025 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Tuesday, July 29 | 5:00 – 6:30 PM
Food Shed Co-op Community Room
Free

Join Woodstock resident and sustainability advocate Jon Alspach for an engaging and practical class on how to compost at home—no large yard or fancy equipment needed!

Jon, an Environmental Science graduate of Loyola University, has partnered with Food Shed Co-op to reduce food waste by picking up produce scraps and turning them into nutrient-rich compost in his own backyard. His efforts have helped transform his lawn into a thriving wildflower haven.

In this class, you’ll learn:

• What materials can (and cannot) go into your compost pile
• How to start a composting system that works for your space
• Tips for balancing moisture, heat, and aeration
• How to use your compost to improve soil and plant health

Whether you’re a beginner or looking to improve your composting game, this class will leave you informed and inspired. Sustainability starts at home. Learn how composting can reduce waste, support local ecosystems, and make your garden thrive.
