The Food Shed Co-op is a community-owned, full-service grocery store in Woodstock, Illinois. After years of planning and dedication, we proudly opened our doors in May 2024.

We began in 2014 as a group of neighbors who believed McHenry County deserved a grocery store rooted in local food, sustainability, and community ownership. We incorporated under the Illinois Co-operative Act, which means the Co-op is democratically owned and governed by the local people who shop here—our Owners—your neighbors.

Anyone can shop at the Food Shed Co-op—ownership is not required. But becoming a member-owner is easy and powerful. For a one-time minimum investment of just $200 per household, you become a co-owner of the business. Unlike conventional grocery stores, the Food Shed Co-op is not controlled by distant shareholders. Instead, we are owned by almost 3,000 community members who have purchased equity shares. Every dollar spent here supports local farmers, producers, and businesses, helping to build a healthier, more resilient local food system.
